Image Settings: DALL-E vs Unsplash

Visual content is essential for engaging your readers. In your settings, you can choose between two powerful image sources for your articles: AI-generated images (DALL-E 3) or high-quality stock photos (Unsplash). This guide explains how to configure these settings and customize your image styles to match your brand.

Choosing Your Image Source

You can set a global preference for how images are generated or selected for your articles. Each source offers unique benefits:

  • Stock Photos (Unsplash): Access over 1 million professional, high-resolution photos. This is the default setting and is ideal for a realistic, authentic look.

  • AI Images (DALL-E 3): Generate unique, custom images based on your article's title and content. This is perfect for creating specific scenes that stock photography might not cover.

AI image generation may consume more credits than stock photos depending on your plan. Check your plan details for more information.

How to Configure Global Image Settings

To set your default image preferences for all future articles:

  1. Navigate to Settings from your sidebar.

  2. Select the Articles tab and then click on Preferences.

  3. Locate the Image Type dropdown menu.

  4. Choose either Stock Photos (Unsplash) or AI Images (DALL-E 3).

  5. Click Save to apply your changes.

DALL-E 3 Image Styles

If you select AI Images, you can choose from five distinct visual styles to ensure consistency across your content:

  • Brand & Text: Photo-realistic scenes with text matching your content and backgrounds using your brand color.

  • Cinematic: High-quality, dramatic photos with professional lighting and composition.

  • Illustration: Modern digital illustrations with clean lines and vibrant colors.

  • Watercolor: Artistic scenes with soft, elegant watercolor effects.

  • Sketch: Hand-drawn pencil style with natural textures and shading.

To use the Brand & Text style effectively, ensure you have configured your Brand Color in the Business settings.

Featured Image Customization

Featured images appear at the top of your articles and in social shares. You can further customize these by enabling Title-Based Featured Images. This option overlays your article title directly onto the image using your brand color for a professional, branded look.

Available featured styles include Sketch, Watercolor, and Illustration, each designed to highlight your title in the center of the image.

Overriding Settings for a Single Article

You don't have to stick to your global settings for every piece of content. You can change the image source for a specific article during the creation process:

  1. On the New Article page, click the Settings (gear icon) button.

  2. In the settings drawer, modify the Image Type or Style.

  3. These changes will only apply to the current article.

If you aren't happy with a generated image, you can always use the Change Image button on the article page to manually search for a new one from Unsplash.
