Google Search Console Integration

Connecting your Google Search Console (GSC) account allows you to track how your articles are performing in Google search results. By integrating GSC, you can monitor keyword rankings, click-through rates, and search impressions directly from your dashboard.

Google Search Console data typically has a 2-3 day delay. This is a limitation of the Google API, so your most recent search data may not appear immediately.

Prerequisites

Before you begin the integration process, ensure you have the following:

  • A Google Search Console account.

  • A verified website property in your GSC account that matches your project domain.

  • "Owner" or "Full" permissions for the GSC property you wish to connect.

Connecting Google Search Console

The integration uses OAuth 2.0 to securely connect to your Google account without sharing your password. Follow these steps to set up the connection:

  1. Navigate to Settings from your main dashboard.

  2. Select the General tab (or Integrations, depending on your view).

  3. Locate the Google Search Console section.

  4. Click the Connect Google Search Console button.

  5. A Google sign-in window will appear. Select the Google account associated with your Search Console properties.

  6. Review the permissions requested (read-only access to your Search Console data) and click Allow.

  7. Once authorized, you will be returned to the settings page. Select the specific Search Console Property that matches your website domain from the dropdown menu.

  8. Click Save to finalize the connection.

Ensure your GSC property URL matches your project domain exactly (including http:// vs https:// and www vs non-www) to ensure data syncs correctly.

Understanding Your Search Data

Once connected, the system will perform an initial sync, typically pulling 30-90 days of historical data. You can view this information in your Keyword Dashboard.

Key Metrics Tracked

  • Clicks: The total number of times users clicked on your website from Google search results.

  • Impressions: How many times your website appeared in search results, even if it wasn't clicked.

  • CTR (Click-Through Rate): The percentage of impressions that resulted in a click (Clicks ÷ Impressions).

  • Average Position: Your website's average ranking on Google for specific keywords. A lower number (like 1 or 2) means you are ranking higher.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

"No properties found"

If you don't see your website in the property selection dropdown after connecting, ensure that the Google account you signed into has "Owner" or "Full" permissions for that property in Google Search Console.

Missing or Incomplete Data

If your dashboard shows no data or "0" for all metrics, check the following:

  • Data Lag: Remember that Google data is delayed by 2-3 days.

  • Property Mismatch: Verify that the property you selected in settings exactly matches your live website URL.

  • New Properties: If you just verified your property in GSC, it may take a few days for Google to start collecting and sharing data via the API.

Expired Connection

Occasionally, Google may require you to re-authorize the connection for security reasons. If your data stops syncing, simply return to Settings and click Reconnect to refresh your OAuth token.

Disconnecting the integration will stop all keyword tracking. If you reconnect later, there may be a gap in your historical data for the period the integration was inactive.
