Content Filters and Word Exclusions
Maintaining a consistent brand voice is essential for building trust with your audience. One of the most effective ways to ensure your AI-generated content sounds natural and unique is by using Content Filters and Word Exclusions. This feature allows you to create a "blacklist" of overused terms or phrases that the AI should avoid, helping you steer clear of formulaic "AI-speak" and stay true to your brand's personality.
Word exclusions are applied at the organization level. This means any terms you add to your exclusion list will be filtered out of all articles generated by anyone in your organization.
How Word Exclusions Work
When you add words or phrases to your exclusion list, they are automatically injected into the instructions sent to the AI during the generation process. Whether you are using Idea Mode, Outrank Mode, or the Rewriting tool, the system explicitly tells the AI not to include those specific terms in the final output.
Accessing Output Settings
You can manage your excluded words directly from the article creation workflow. Follow these steps to access your settings:
Navigate to Articles and select New Article from the sidebar.
In the top-right corner of the editor, click the Output Settings button (represented by a settings/gear icon).
A drawer will slide out from the right side of the screen.

Managing Your Excluded Words
Once the Output Settings drawer is open, locate the section titled Words to not include in articles. This is where you can customize your filtering preferences.
Adding and Removing Words
Add terms: Type the words or phrases you want to exclude into the text area. Separate multiple terms with a comma (e.g., revolutionary, pivotal, game changer).
Remove terms: Simply delete the word or phrase from the list.
Save changes: Click the Save button at the bottom of the drawer to apply your changes globally.

Using the Default List
By default, we include a pre-populated list of common AI-typical words like revolutionary, pivotal, unparalleled, and streamlined. If you ever want to revert to this original list, click the Reset button.
Clicking Reset will overwrite any custom words you have added. Make sure to copy your custom list elsewhere if you want to keep it before resetting.
Best Practices for Brand Voice
To get the most out of your content filters, consider excluding terms that fall into these categories:
AI Cliches: Words like delve, unlock, unleash, and embark often signal that content was AI-generated.
Overused Buzzwords: Terms like cutting-edge, robust, and synergy can make content feel generic.
Off-Brand Language: If your brand is casual, you might exclude formal terms like furthermore or nevertheless.
Start with a small list and test it with a few generated articles. If you find the AI is struggling to express certain concepts, you may need to remove some of the more common words from your exclusion list.
